“The launch of EEDO is a really positive move…”
Neil Donald comments on recently appointed Energy Minister Ed Davey’s launch of the Energy Efficiency Deployment Office .
“The launch of the Energy Efficiency Deployment Office (EEDO) is a really positive move for the Government on the part of Ed Davey who, within days of his appointment as Energy Secretary, is clearly setting out his stall in no uncertain terms.
We now urge the Government to effectively use this new resource and make clear its vision for revolutionising energy efficiency in the UK’s existing housing stock because, with legislation relating to the housing industry having reached an unprecedented level of complexity, many are struggling to get to grips with the practicalities of tackling the carbon reduction challenge.
At present we have to contend with CERT and CESP being wound down by year end, the Feed-in-Tariff being thrown into a state of limbo and, despite the rhetoric surrounding the Green Deal, many are still in the dark about how the Government’s flagship scheme will work in practice.
If we are to deliver the required improvements in the energy efficiency of our existing and future housing stock we need clarity and we need guidance. Therefore, whilst the launch of the EEDO is a development we heartily welcome, it is on the sole proviso that it acts as a genuine catalyst to ensure the Green Deal lives up to its star billing. Quite simply, the industry cannot take another false start.”
